Hello Interview Review 2026: Best for System Design — Worth It?

Hello Interview is one of the strongest system design resources available in 2026: a free course, detailed problem breakdowns with level-by-level expectations, and AI-guided whiteboard practice. It is a weaker fit if you want a live human mock interviewer, a program it ended on May 31, 2026. It is also less suited if your main need is one company's question list with every item visible up front.

Disclosure: TrueInterview is a competing interview-preparation product, and this review is published by TrueInterview. We checked Hello Interview's public pages signed out on September 19, 2026, and saved every page we cite. We did not buy Premium, use Guided Practice beyond its public description, or ask the AI tutor anything, so paid features are described from Hello Interview's own wording, not tested. Every factual statement below traces to wording on a saved public page; the Sources section lists those pages.

Quick Verdict: Is Hello Interview Worth It in 2026?

Yes, if system design is the round you are most worried about. Hello Interview's free "System Design in a Hurry" course is built, in its own words, by FAANG hiring managers and staff engineers, and its paid passes are inexpensive: $79 for a year on the sale price shown on September 19, 2026, with no automatic renewal. The trade-offs are narrower than the strengths. Human mock interviews and mentorship have ended, refunds on Premium are at the company's discretion under the Terms, and signed out you see five questions per company list.

What We Verified — and What We Did Not

We sorted every statement into evidence tiers. Observed means we saw it on a public page while signed out, such as a price card or a question-count line. First-party means Hello Interview says it about itself and we could not test it, such as its user figure or the claim that its AI feedback is tuned by FAANG interviewers. Ours means a statement from TrueInterview's public pages, held to the same standard. We used no third-party reviews, Reddit threads or user testimonials as evidence.

What we did not verify is substantial. We did not read any Premium-locked article, watch a Premium video, run a Guided Practice session, or see the full report timeline on any question. The answers in Hello Interview's FAQ are collapsed on the page and we did not capture them as page text, so for refund and access rules we rely on the Terms. Where we compare counts, we compare the numbers each site displays and say where those numbers measure different things.

What Hello Interview Actually Is

Hello Interview is an interview-prep platform operated by Optick Labs Inc., built by founders who say they left Meta in 2022 and describe the company as fully independent with no investors. One co-founder is described as a former Staff engineer at Meta. The home page describes the product as "loved by 100,000+ software engineers and managers". Its learning tracks cover system design, coding, low-level design, ML system design, behavioral and AI-enabled coding, and it ships iOS and Android apps.

The product has four layers. Free written courses and problem breakdowns sit at the base. Premium adds locked articles, videos and deeper breakdowns; the Premium page counted 65 Premium articles, 25 Premium videos and 66 Guided Practices on September 19, 2026. Guided Practice is an AI interviewer that walks you through a problem step by step on a whiteboard. And a community question library collects interview questions shared by users, organized by company.

Hello Interview Pricing in 2026

Hello Interview sells time-boxed access passes rather than subscriptions, and on September 19, 2026 every pass was discounted under an "up to 20% off" banner. One month cost $47 against a struck-through $59, with access until Oct 19, 2026. One year cost $79 against $99, and lifetime access cost $279 against $349. The monthly and yearly passes are labelled "Does not auto-renew", and the yearly card says you can upgrade to lifetime at any time.

Two conditions in the Terms matter before you pay. Section 6.3 states that Premium access fees are non-refundable and that refunds are provided at Hello Interview's sole discretion. Section 6.1 states that lifetime access is perpetual subject to the continued availability of the Premium service. Accounts are personal and may not be shared.

On value alone, Hello Interview is inexpensive. Its one-year pass at $79 costs less than TrueInterview's yearly Pro plan at $119, and both are sale prices. TrueInterview's company question banks require its Insider plan at $159 a year, and TrueInterview's yearly plans renew, while Hello Interview's passes do not.

Company Coverage: Hello Interview vs TrueInterview

Hello Interview's company lists are large for Meta and Google and smaller for Stripe and Anthropic. Signed out, each company page shows five full questions and renders the rest as placeholder text; Premium unlocks the full list plus level and region filters. The lists mix every interview type, including behavioral and people-management prompts. Each item also groups several user reports: one visible Stripe item alone was reported by 26 users. TrueInterview counts filed questions per company, so the two sites count differently and the columns below are not a like-for-like ranking.

Access conditions differ too. Hello Interview's five cards are what anyone sees signed out, sorted by "Recent and Popular". TrueInterview's free counts are questions that open in full without a paid plan, and some of its features need a free account.

Freshness is a genuine strength for Hello Interview. Every company list we saved had a visible question stamped as last asked in August or September 2026, and for Anthropic, Stripe and Google its newest visible stamp is later than the month on TrueInterview's page. Hello Interview also pairs company lists with written interview guides. The OpenAI list links to L4 and L5 guides, and the OpenAI L5 guide was updated on September 7, 2026. The Anthropic guides, published the same day, cover four roles and state plainly that there is not yet enough evidence for a reliable junior guide. The Meta list links to guides from E3 to M1, and the sitemap lists guides for Amazon and Microsoft as well. The Stripe list we saved showed no guide links.

Individual question pages are more open than the lists suggest. A Stripe ledger question showed its full prompt signed out, along with community solutions, 33 of them by the page's count. On an Anthropic question page, the timeline of when it was asked is truncated for non-Premium visitors.

Question Quality and Sourcing

Both sites build their banks from candidate reports, and both disclaim accuracy. Hello Interview's company pages describe their questions as shared by other Hello Interview users. Each item shows how many users reported it and when it was last asked, and question pages show a timeline of reports by level and region. The Terms state that Hello Interview makes no guarantees about the accuracy, currency or quality of user content. We did not find a description of a review step on the pages we captured, though we did not capture the FAQ answers.

TrueInterview's terms say it does not pre-screen, endorse or verify user content except as required by law or its internal policies. They also state that the service offers practice and simulation material only and does not provide any company's actual interview questions. Its methodology describes the process: reports, including ones a candidate already published elsewhere, are rewritten to stand on their own, checked against questions already filed for that company, and filed under a company, a round and a format. It dates each question by the month it was reported and calls the bank a sample of what was asked, not a syllabus.

One labelling point on Hello Interview's side is worth knowing when you compare sizes. The home and Guided Practice price cards say the question library has 13,000+ questions. The pricing and Premium pages say 5,000+ questions, and the Premium counter says 5.3k reported interview questions. Company pages show 13,246 total reports, which matches the larger figure, so the 13,000+ number most likely counts reports rather than distinct questions. Guided Practice figures are similar: the pricing page says 45 System Design and Low Level Design problems. The Guided Practice page lists 42 across those two tracks (34 plus 8). The Premium counter's 66 covers all tracks, including 12 AI-coding problems.

System Design: Why Hello Interview's Reputation Holds Up

This is where Hello Interview earns its reputation, and the public pages support it. The free "System Design in a Hurry" course says it works backwards from what you need to know to succeed in an interview. It frames the assessment around four themes: Problem Navigation, Solution Design, Technical Excellence, and Communication and Collaboration. It gives practical time guidance, such as spreading preparation over 3-4 weeks if the format is new to you. By the company's own statement, Premium is not required for this course. The introduction alone carried 281 comments on September 19, 2026, a sign of an active readership.

The problem breakdowns are the core asset. The Bitly breakdown, updated February 14, 2026, includes a video walkthrough and is pitched at a more junior audience. It grades alternative approaches explicitly, with labels such as "Bad Solution" and "Great Solution", and ends with a section on what interviewers expect at each level. For staff candidates, the page says the bar is seeing past the textbook solution to real production concerns. A 15-question quiz follows. The Ticketmaster breakdown has the same structure and was updated February 15, 2026. The sitemap also lists technology deep dives such as Kafka and case studies of real systems, such as Figma's multiplayer design. By our count, it listed 16 problem breakdowns, 8 deep dives and 6 case studies.

Premium extends this. The Premium page listed 31 System Design items, including a ChatGPT design breakdown with video and guided practice. Guided Practice offers 34 System Design problems at about 35 minutes each. Hello Interview describes it as whiteboard-first, with an AI that reads your drawing, and says each session ends with a report that includes a peer comparison. You can try the Bitly problem free. We did not test the AI feedback, which Hello Interview says is tuned by FAANG interviewers.

The adjacent tracks vary in maturity. The low-level design course takes a clear modern stance, favoring composition over inheritance. ML System Design was still labelled early access. The coding track is a visual guide to algorithm patterns, with between 2 and 13 problems per pattern, from Binary Search at 2 to Depth-First Search at 13. If system design is your main gap, Hello Interview is hard to beat. If your gap is coding for one specific company, the coding track is a smaller part of the product.

Human Mock Interviews: Ended in May 2026

Hello Interview no longer offers live human mock interviews or mentorship. A notice from the founders says the company wound down both programs on May 31, 2026, and that the change was only about the live 1:1 programs. Refunds for unexpired credits were processed after that date. The notice says that window has closed, and it invites anyone who believes they are still owed a refund to email support. Past session notes and feedback stay in users' accounts. The stated reason is that 1:1 work can only reach so many people.

For buyers, AI-guided practice is now the closest thing Hello Interview offers to a mock. If you want a human interviewer's judgment, you will need to book one elsewhere. TrueInterview does not sell human mocks either, and says so. The Terms, last revised September 2, 2026, still contain a Coaching Services section, including cancellation and no-show fees and a clause on recording coach-candidate communications.

Privacy, Data and Terms

Hello Interview's privacy policy was last updated September 2, 2026 and is specific about who handles data. It names its service providers, including Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare, Sentry, Expo, Stripe, Razorpay and Discord. The Terms name OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and AnyScale as AI platforms used for AI-driven features. The policy covers messages you send to the AI tutor and says it stores messages posted in the public channels of its Discord server. Your Premium status may be visible to other users when you post in community features.

On advertising, the policy says the website may allow third-party providers to use cookies, including to show relevant ads on other websites. The app is described as having no advertising or third-party tracking software. Retention is stated as "as long as necessary", and account deletion is self-serve and described in detail. The Terms include binding arbitration with a class action waiver, with a 30-day right to opt out, and cap Hello Interview's liability at $50. For reference, TrueInterview's privacy policy names OpenRouter, including DeepSeek models, and Anthropic as its model providers.

Where Hello Interview Is Strong — and Where It Falls Short

Strengths

Choose Hello Interview if system design or low-level design is your weakest round, at any level, and you want structured teaching with level-by-level expectations. Its free material is enough to start, and a one-year pass costs $79 on the sale price.

Choose TrueInterview if you have a loop at a specific company and want its reported questions filed by round and dated by month, with coding and SQL judged on hidden tests. System design rounds are covered too, with a whiteboard workspace. The company banks are part of the Insider plan. The two sites count differently: Hello Interview groups repeat reports into one item, while TrueInterview counts filed questions.

TrueInterview is not the better choice if you need to learn system design from first principles. It is a question bank with practice tools, not a course, and its methodology calls the bank a sample of what was asked. It does not sell human mocks. Many candidates will reasonably use Hello Interview's free system design material alongside a company-specific bank.
