Research Paper Presentation and Defense (DeepMind RS)

Requirements

The round involves no coding. You present one of your papers, then tackle a quick succession of research-defense questions:

• Why was the problem worth solving, and why was the selected framing a good fit?
• Which alternative design could take the place of the one in your paper, and what would shift?
• What follows if a key assumption breaks down?
• What makes each critical design choice defensible?
• What is the most promising follow-up research direction?

Notes

Motivation and reasoning outweigh straight recitation of method specifics. Work heavy on evaluations or benchmarks is fragile when the training and post-training account is superficial. If a question cannot be settled with certainty, lay out a defendable line of reasoning instead of faking an answer.

Preparation

Condense the paper into a short narrative that includes motivation, hypothesis, decisive design choices, evidence, and limitations. Construct an alternative-design table with credible discarded options, the trade-off that led to each discard, and the evidence that could overturn the decision. Rehearse a combative defense where every assumption gets challenged and every reply finishes with a falsifiable next experiment.
