Describe two occasions when you had to own an unfavorable result. Use real situations, or clearly label any practice example as fictional.
Part 1 — A missed deadline
Tell me about a time you missed a deadline. What caused the miss, how did you communicate it, and what did you do after?
What This Part Should Cover
- The commitment you made and your accountability for it.
- When the risk became apparent and what you told the people affected.
- The recovery choice, its result, and what you changed in later planning.
Part 2 — Your biggest mistake
What was your largest mistake at work? Describe your decision, its consequences, and how you responded.
What This Part Should Cover
- A specific mistake with an actual consequence, not a weakness that is really a strength.
- Your part in causing and fixing it, without shifting blame to coworkers.
- Proof of recovery and a concrete preventive step.
What a Strong Answer Covers
- A direct link between decisions, consequences, corrective action, and learning in each story.
- Honest limits about what you fixed and what stayed affected.
Follow-up Questions
- What signal did you notice too late, and how would you respond to it now?
- How did you confirm that the corrective action worked? Overview: Practice responses about a missed deadline and a major mistake, demonstrating ownership, recovery, verification, and specific changes through made-up examples.
