A client or decision maker puts forward a plan that is far more aggressive than you anticipated. Talk through how you would react, or share an actual instance when you dealt with this kind of situation. Describe how you would make sense of the proposal, assess where you disagree, and support the group in reaching a decision while keeping the working relationship healthy.
What a Strong Answer Covers
- The core goal and the specific factors that make the proposal aggressive.
- Information that separates an unacceptable risk from simply a different appetite for risk.
- Options that preserve the goal when possible.
- Respectful pushback, clear ownership of the final call, and follow-through.
Follow-up Questions
- What would you do if the decision maker heard your concerns and still went with the aggressive plan?
- What evidence would convince you that your original worry was wrong? Overview: Handle an aggressive client or stakeholder proposal by clarifying the goals, pressure-testing concerns, weighing alternatives, and following through on whatever is decided.
