Resolve conflicts and prioritize with stakeholders

Tell me about a concrete instance where you had to balance competing demands from Risk, Sales, and Engineering on a payments analytics project. Structure your response using STAR and include dates and metrics. Then address the following:
- Prioritization: Present the framework you use (for example, RICE or impact–effort) and lay out a one-week plan containing three commitments and two items you explicitly deprioritize; describe the trade-offs and the impact you expect.
- Stakeholder management: Write two word-for-word messages—one that pushes back on an executive request that would undermine guardrails, and one that gets a skeptical engineer on board. State the escalation route you would take if no agreement is reached within 24 hours.
- Conflict resolution: A manager from a neighboring team challenges your methodology in a design review. How would you lower the tension, look for evidence that contradicts your approach, and make the call? Include the artifacts you would publish afterward (such as a RACI and a decision log) and how you would measure success.
- Retrospective: Name one thing you would change and the measurable result you would aim for.
Be specific (names and titles may be anonymized), and put numbers on the impact.
Overview: This question assesses stakeholder management, prioritization frameworks, cross-functional conflict resolution, and decision documentation in a payments analytics setting for a Data Scientist position.
