Explain your main growth area

Which part of your growth or development is most on your mind at the moment?
Explain:
- The particular skill or behavior you are trying to strengthen.
- The way you came to see this as an area needing growth (feedback you received, your own reflection, things that happened on a project).
- The specific actions you are taking to get better.
- Whatever progress or outcomes you have noticed so far.
Overview: This prompt is used to gauge how well a candidate knows themselves, whether they hold a growth mindset, and whether they can pinpoint and build up particular professional skills or behaviors that matter for leading, working with others, and doing the job well.
Solution Pick a genuine growth area that is relevant but is not one of the core competencies the role already requires of you, and demonstrate that you are actively working on it.
Guidance:
- Choose an area worth discussing
- For instance: getting better at handing work off to others, strengthening communication across teams, improving how you push back and set priorities, going deeper on system design, or making decisions more grounded in data.
- Steer clear of answers that sound like clichés or ring false ("I'm too caring", "I put in too many hours").
- Say how you spotted it
- Point to particular feedback from a manager or a colleague.
- Or describe a project where this shortcoming created friction or held back the results.
- Lay out the concrete steps you are taking
- Classes or reading, a mentor, deliberate practice (writing design documents, chairing cross-team meetings, for example), asking for feedback aimed at this area, setting goals you can measure.
- Show what has changed
- Give an instance where your efforts helped you handle something better recently.
- Put a number on the impact, or describe it, if you can.
This demonstrates:
- Knowing yourself and being open to improving.
- Taking charge of your own development rather than depending on other people.
- A growth mindset that fits with succeeding over the long term in the role.
