Behavioral / project deep-dive
Expect to talk through a recent project you have worked on, ideally one that had both meaningful technical and business impact. Be ready to address the following:
- Problem and motivation: What led you to take on this project? Which user or business problem did it address?
- Options evaluated: Before you started building, did you look at existing or mature infrastructure, tools, or platforms that might solve the problem? What other alternatives did you weigh?
- Why that decision: Why did you select this approach or solution instead of the alternatives? What trade-offs did you accept, such as cost, time, complexity, risk, scalability, maintainability, privacy or safety?
- Metrics: How did you define success? Which metrics did you choose, how were they measured, and what baselines or targets did you set?
AI at work
Also, describe how you use AI tools in your day-to-day work, if you use them at all: what tasks you rely on them for, how you check their outputs, and how you manage privacy and security concerns. Overview: This question assesses a software engineer’s ability in project decision-making, trade-off analysis, measuring impact through metrics, and responsible AI tool use. It touches technical leadership, product thinking, measurement, and privacy/security considerations.
