Design the control system for elevators in a building that may have a single car or several cars. Riders interact with the system in two ways: inside each car there are buttons for selecting a destination floor, and on every floor there are call buttons for requesting a ride either up or down. The system has to decide which car serves each floor request, and it must make those assignments efficiently even when a large number of requests come in at the same time.
