Demonstrate leadership under disagreement

October 7, 2026 · 1 min read
Recount one concrete occasion when you firmly opposed a senior stakeholder over shipping a data product or model on a hard deadline. Give the exact date window and your role, the stakeholder roles involved (PM, SWE manager, and so on), and the leadership principles you applied. Which decision criteria and quantitative guardrails (KPIs, thresholds) did you establish? How did you sway the outcome without formal authority, manage clashing incentives, and express risk in numeric terms? What measurable result followed (give concrete deltas or dollar figures), what was the harshest feedback you got, and in retrospect what would you change to strengthen both the business outcome and team trust?
Overview: This question assesses leadership ability across stakeholder management, influence without authority, quantitative risk communication, and decision-making under deadline pressure, framed as a Behavioral & Leadership item for a Data Scientist role.
