Requirements
The 30-minute Leadership interview covered these specific prompts:
- Walk through the impact your projects had.
- Talk about how you have mentored teammates.
- Say how you split project work among the people involved.
- Say how you decide who gets credit for the finished work.
Notes
- The pipeline was aiming at IC6, although the posted role carried a senior title with no explicit level attached. Check what the target level is before booking the interview.
- The feedback pointed to thin project impact and mentorship, even though the candidate found the technical session easy going.
- A friendly conversation does not show that the leadership bar was cleared. Here, the recruiter did not propose carrying on at a lower level.
Answer framework for practice
- Tie a real project's goal and starting point to the decisions you yourself made, what came of them, and how users or the business were affected. Keep work that was shipped separate from impact that was actually shown, and spell out measurement limits when attribution is unclear.
- For mentoring and shared work, describe what the other person needed at the start, what support you gave, how duties were split, and how their independence or results changed. Keep your own contribution apart from your teammates' and say how you recognized what they did. This is a way to organize an answer, not an official scoring rubric for any level.
Preparation
- Spend 15 minutes sketching two real projects in terms of goal, baseline, your own decision, outcome, and evidence. Flag any result you cannot back up, and get ready to explain that uncertainty honestly.
- Spend 10 minutes laying out one mentoring example: what the person needed at first, what you did, how the work was divided, the progress you saw, and what credit each contributor deserves. Check that the outline separates your decisions from the team's work.
- Record a five-minute answer to one of the prompts above, then take five minutes to review it for a clear personal action, supported impact, and fair attribution. Rewrite the vaguest passage and record again.
