Requirements
- Have at the ready a story about a disagreement or conflict with a colleague.
- Prepare an instance where you took feedback and adjusted your behavior.
- Prepare a narrative of a project that went poorly or a tough period, and the lessons you took from it.
- Have a story about a challenging project where you navigated ambiguity.
- Prepare a decision-making example where trade-offs were critical.
- For senior-level interviews, prepare a diversity or inclusion story.
- Be prepared for hybrid questions that start with your resume project and then shift into behavioral follow-ups.
Notes
- The senior behavioral interview may throw a series of unrelated “tell me about a time” prompts rather than focusing on a single project in depth.
- Some behavioral rounds feel like a casual chat; others are more formal and structured.
- For frontend and intern interviews, manager rounds typically center on collaboration, disagreement, and feedback themes.
- Stories tailored to Lyft should highlight collaboration, learning, accountability, and inclusion. For DEI questions, have a concrete example of how you changed a process, broadened access, or improved team involvement, not just a vague statement of values.
Preparation
- Develop six STAR stories covering conflict, failure, feedback, ambiguity, leadership or mentorship, and inclusion.
- For each, have one metric or result ready, plus a follow-up on what you’d do differently.
- Practice delivering them in two minutes first, then elaborating only if prompted.
- Link each story to a Lyft-relevant signal: customer impact, achieving results together, learning from feedback, or fostering belonging through a specific action.
