You're sitting in the initial 30-minute call with a hiring manager for a senior or staff individual contributor opening. The manager will pose a series of behavioral questions. Deliver strong, well-organized responses to these prompts:
- “What are you looking for in your next role?”
- Touch on how you evaluate level/title, scope, domain fit, and team match.
- “Tell me about the project where you had the most impact.”
- Walk through the problem, what you owned, the key calls you made, how you executed, and the measurable results.
- “How do you handle disagreement?”
- Draw on a real example (e.g., a disagreement with a manager, peer, or cross-functional partner).
- Demonstrate how you find shared goals, work through conflict, and keep things moving.
- “Why do you want to join us?” (particularly when the company may offer lower pay and the exact team from the job posting may not be open)
- Give believable reasons and decision criteria without coming across as desperate or fixated on title. Overview: This question is designed to probe a candidate's leadership, communication, impact storytelling, conflict resolution, and motivation, with particular attention to how they frame level and scope, recount high-impact projects, manage disagreements, and justify fit when compensation or the precise team are uncertain.
